Mechanized agriculture

Mechanization is a threat to unskilled labor and could soon displace it. The usual benefits include encouraging large scale production and also improving the quality of farm produce. There is also the threat of environmental degradation like pollution and social erosion. How can this be avoided with the future of agriculture in mind?

Didn't we already make the leap years ago? Mechanization seems so common that I'm not sure that it's reversible. Robotics and automation are the next big thing I suppose, but there's also been a resurgence in backyard gardens and homesteading, so perhaps it balances out. What do you think?

I've often said that technology is great, BUT technology is what's ruined our small towns and small family farms.
