    Rising feed prices

I'm sorry to hear about the struggles you've been through! I have so many questions though. I have never raised livestock, but I was under the impression that most farmers grew what their animals ate to keep their outlay low. Couldn't you save money on feed by allowing your livestock to graze...

    Peeling a boiled egg

What is your preferred method for boiling eggs and peeling them so that the shell comes off easily? I saw a tutorial where the chef pierced the bottom of the eggs with a needle before boiling them because he felt it made them easier to peel. Does that really work?

    Politics Over The Virus

CNN, AP News, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and BBC, all have regular reports about the COVID-19 crisis. Sometimes it makes me anxious to keep hearing so much gloom and doom, but lately, they've begun highlighting some good things too which I appreciate. Like those who have overcome...

    Gorilla's Got Covid

I believe it's already been found in livestock, hasn't it? I know it's been found in pets like cats and dogs. Cattle get the coronavirus, but I believe it's a different strain than the one that causes COVID-19. Sometimes it feels like an unsolvable conundrum. But, I just wash my hands more...

    Equipment mechanic

For me, it depends on how far along he is in his training and whether I thought he could handle it after meeting the boy. I've done something like that before and it worked out okay. I want to support the schools and students as much as I can.

    Goat's milk vs. cow's milk

I've only known that the food was made with goat's milk when the person told me. I'm not a connoisseur of milk though, so maybe my taste buds just aren't sensitive enough to tell the difference.

    Would You Join a Union?

Many of us here also run businesses. I have to wonder how many of us would be happy to have our workers unionize. I think it feels very different when you're on the other side of things.

Fiskars yard tools still made in USA?

I bought a pair of Fiskars' scissors and the quality isn't the same as usual. I also noticed that they lack the orange handle that Fiskars is known for. I checked and sure enough they're made in China. I need some new loppers and tree pruners. I buy the pro version of Fiskars' products...

    What is fair game/off limits?

Everything is off limits simply because I'm running a landscape company and I need these machines for my livelihood and the livelihoods of my employees. It's expensive equipment and I have contracts to fulfill! Having said that, I do take care of my workers and will allow them to use some of...

    Neighbor kid allergic to strawberries

So, whatever happened with this? I'd like to get an update if at all possible. I think it's an unusual request to make of a neighbor, so the allergy would have to be pretty severe before I'd comply.

    The Tastiest Kumquat Varieties?

Apparently they come in sweet varieties and sour varieties, but which plants do you think produce the tastiest fruits? Are they typically easy or hard to grow?

    Anyone else miss having littles?

I always miss having young children this time of year. The young ones get so excited about Santa coming and they really get into the holiday spirit and enjoy family time. I can't help but miss those days. Mine are old enough to think that Dad is a dork and they're busy texting their friends...

    Estimation for renting backhoe?

$300 per day sounds high to me. I've seen them rented out for much less on Craigslist. I don't rent my equipment out because it's too much hassle and not worth the risk since I use it for my business.

USDA Clears Santa’s Reindeer for Entry into the United States

I love that. When the kids were little we used to watch his progress through NORAD's Santa tracker. They really got a kick out of it. I sure appreciate all these agencies who go out of their way to make the holiday fun for kids. Thank goodness the USDA gave Santa and his reindeer clearance to...

    Efficient bass pond

That's a good point about the crawfish, @Smarty Plants. I don't live in Louisiana, but maybe there's a market for them outside of that area. It couldn't hurt to check.

Last minute gift for teenage boy - solved

You could get him a Leatherman multi-tool. If you wind up giving money you could make it special by folding it into an origami piece. Or freeze the money in a thick block of ice. I would've gotten a kick out of that as a teen.

    Efficient bass pond

I have a large natural pond that I'm considering stocking with bass for fishing. I want this to be as efficient as possible, so I'm not having to do a lot with it. What other fish should I add? Would crawfish be an asset?

    Broilers or layers?

Broilers have a quick turnover rate, so if you're worried about getting attached then they might be the way to go. You wouldn't have to worry as much about them either.

    Homemade animal feed

It might be cheaper to make it at home, but you'd need to have it tested every now and then to make sure it's got the correct nutrients and minerals. I think it's easier to supplement their commercial food with forage and kitchen scraps, rather than taking on their whole diet. I'd worry about...

    Ferris Zero Turn Mower Problems

I've used some of their mowers in my professional landscaping business, and they work great. They're heavy-duty, well-made machines. You just need to keep up with the standard amount of maintenance, the same as you would for any mower.
