    What is eating my suet?

I've seen raccoons climb posts to get into bird feeders. I sure hope it's not one. Where is your feeder? The birds might fly away but they will come back.

    Thistle or no?

I want to attract more yellow finches this spring and summer. I've never used thistle before (on it's own). The birdseed we buy has a bit in the mixture. Do you think I should buy a bag of thistle and add to the other birdseed? How do I attract more finches?

    No robins yet

@ Rich, I didn't know that. I've never seen a Robin in the winter here in Upstate NY. I wish! Do you feed them in the winter? If so, what do you put out?

Going to put in vegetables too

Wow... I read some of your other posts and I agree with you. It seems like a lot but it's doable! You guys will be busy for sure. Do you have animals too?

    Frugal root cellar

Very interesting! Something I have never even thought about doing. I agree with @ Almost Eden, be sure a child can't lock themselves in. Let us know how it works out if you do it.

    Wattle fencing

We have built some of these too. We put them around our vegetable garden. I bet they would keep chickens in but would they keep predators out? They are fun to make though.

    Food poisoning

How do you know if you have food poisoning? Would certain foods bother one person and not another. My husband and I both ate the same meal from a local pizza place. He's sicker than a dog, I'm fine. He thinks it is food poisoning.

    Require vaccines?

This is an interesting topic. We don't have employees, just family. I'm not sure I would require my employees (if I had any) to get the covid vaccine. I am going to get it when I'm eligible but I wouldn't make others.

Covering graves - yea or nay?

We do take care of our loved ones graves around here. We take up pots of flowers and change them out every few months. We also take everything out of there over the winter and just put up wreaths.

    Overuse of equipment

We had that problem in the beginning (just starting out). We have since bought more machinery so we rotate it in and out. Are you logging your machine hours? I'm interested to hear what your mechanic said too.

    Commercial potato growers

Interesting video but I agree that something has to be missing. I don't know of any potatoes that are grown above ground either. You don't have to plant them real deep but they do have to be covered.

    Sledding and snowmen

We have so much snow right now! The kids are loving it. They have been sledding and having snowball fights. We're having a snowman making contest tomorrow. Anyone else get a lot of snow?

    Asparagus

I would love to try growing asparagus this next season. What do I need to know about it? How much room does it take and is it easy to grow? I'd like to grow enough for our family and to sell at the market.

    Backyard livestock

We started small when I was a child. We had chickens and a rooster. My parents then bought a farm and we raised chickens, cattle and pigs. I wouldn't try to raise pigs or cows in my backyard.

    Setting up online orders

My sister-in-law is going to come over and help set up a simple online website for us. I'm pretty excited about this. We've decided to take orders and payments online. Wish us luck!

USDA Offers Additional Assistance for Certain Producers Through Coronavirus Food Assistance Program

This is fantastic news for farmers! It sounds like if you raise swine, boilers, chickens or hens there is extra help. You just have to prove your 2020 revenue is less than your 2019 revenue. We are actually a bit better off in 2020, but help is there if you aren't.

    Busy time at work

I love working at home but I like working outside the home too. Right now I'm so busy with the outside the home job that I'm not helping as much at home and on the farm. I do feel bad, stressed mostly.

    Question about COVID-19 spread

I'm no doctor either but I would have to agree with Locksmith. I think the professionals have pretty much ruled out the virus transferring on clothes. I mean there is a small chance that it's on your clothes and you hug someone and then they put that clothing or a part of their body that touched...

    600 or 2000

Honestly I have been paying attention and I don't think the politicians are just trying to keep their jobs. I think the ones that won't pass it are worried about where the money will come from. Yes, there are some financial limits this time. They lowered the income limit to $75,000 for an...

    Battery and elec zero-turn mower

We have a zero-turn but it runs on gasoline. I love the idea of an electric mower. I don't know anyone that has one. I really want an electric car too. I hope someone here has one so we get information.
