I asked my dealer the same question, yes, there are some problems with the new side mounted rotary air screen, more dust and dirt than on the older design, wasn't offered any ideas for a fix. A bigger problem seems to be with fan belt for cooling the engine, it is a different belt on the 03 model and early on the dealers didn't have any in stock. I'd be checking with the dealer if you are still waiting to start your harvest with a new 03 model. My son is with a crew that has been cutting since southern OK and now ready to move into SD, says reports from Pro Harvest people is the afx rotor is performing well, even better than expected. Two yrs ago the early design afx had some real problems with the hard threshing varieties of the northern regions of the wheat belt. Changes have been made since then, hopefully for the better.

Well we have put about 3000 acres through our 2003 2388 the rotary screen on the side is not that great the machine runs hotter then our previous 2388's. The little funnel at the bottom of the rotary screen is a disaster they pulled a piece of tin of ours to let the chaff fall through because it would plug all the time. The pro Harvest people have told us they are working on something better. We have not had a problem with the fan belt but the seperator belt the one next to the rotor belt we have put on four of them this last one is lasting a while I guess the big thing is to keep it real tight. As for the rotor we have an AFX it has performed quite well no more rotor rumble in fact we were in some rye with 4 foot straw and it was lodged bad and it moved along real well through the rotor. We have had one more problem with the side rotary screen when we have dropped straw the screen becomes plugged with chaff and the air temp. induction light will come on because there is not enough air flow through the intake rad to keep it cool this is a real problem. The people at Pro Harvest have not come up with a solution for us yet. Hope this answers some of your questions.

Gator, We've run barley, oats, wheat through our's the AFX rotor eliminates the rumble problems even in green grass_weeds. We're having problems with the rotating screen and discharge chute. According to Case, the fine screen does not let enough air through with 90 degree(F) temps and the standard screen lets in trash. We cut out part of the discharge chute to eliminate it packing with straw. Case is working on a rubber chute, suppose to be out early '04. We broke a seperator clutch belt which according to Case overtightens itself and should be checked after 10 hours. Also the turbo pipe to the aftercooler is too short and blows off on some machines this shows up as no power and black exhaust. The service lights are direct to the battery now and no longer require the key switch to be on so, if left on ... dead battery.
