Combines 1020 Flex Heads

If i was you i would look at sch knifes.We have ran 1 1_2 and 3 inch knifes.But nothing seems to work like sch on soybeans.Never needs shimed and you know closer the knife the better it cuts.They also work great in stoney soils too.If don`t go with sch i would stay away from 1 1_2 knifes only good first day you use them and worse from their out.

Hey tjones I have combined about 3000 acres of soybeans in the last two years north of Jamestown ND and I have used the 3" sections they have worked well. Only problem was when the stems were green you had to have real sharp sections but once the frost comes the stalks sort of freeze dry and they cut much better. Hope this helps

I have had 3", the next head I bought had 1 1_2" and now back to 3". I would never go back to the 1 1_2" knives. The 3" need much less adjustment upkeep and cut much cleaner.

Big Al, Have you noticed that the sections begin to get dull sooner in wet stem conditions. I installed a new set and the sections feel dull all ready. thanks. JWK

I just switched from 1 1_2 to the 3" cut last year. A lot fewer broken sections and if you plant no-till beans the corn stalks still standing get cut off instead of pushing forward and leaving a streak of uncut beans behind them. I wouldn't go back to the 1 1_2.

Thanks guys, sounds like 3 inch are the only way to go. What do you guys think about having a Crary air reel on. Worth the money.

Yes they do get dull much faster with the wet stems. But like I said once the stems were frozen they did not wear the sections at all.

I agree with Tango completely. I've had both. 1.5" required about a half hour every morning for maintence and RandR. 3" alot more durable indeed!

tjones21, Yes. I had one for the first time this year. I'll never cut soybeans without it again. In short beans, which we had a lot of this year in droughty Kansas, I'm sure the air reel saved 2 to 4 bpa. In tall irrigated beans it helped a lot in feeding. Every thing just kept flowing in with no bunches. K. A.
