If it is to the outside of where your reel can get it, get the fingers from your dealer that bolt to the end divider that lean the beans in. Three on each end, look like extra large pick-up reel teeth. Made a whole new head out of ours a few years back.

One thing I want to bring up the second time...the right side is dead, not a thing wrong with the left side, works perfectly...first time that problem presented itself here, was when we installed a new knife, one section too short...seems to be the obvious here, but this time it is not...really burns when it only happens to the right side only. dmorgan@sit-co.net PS: we recently installed new rotor bars and Gorden's helical concaves...haven't been plugged one time this fall, use to be common practice here to go until the rotor slugged before we quit for the night.

Sure sounds like your cutter bar, the one the gards attach to, might be broken just before the dead spot. It would cut fine in dry beans but rattle and bang and not cut the green stems or wet grass. I know the experience except mine was broken at the wobble box. Also check to see if you might have a broken support in that area. Good luck.

I guess that's possible, but I think it'd be highly unlikely to break on the outer end. There is no stress on it there. I just broke mine four guards in from the left last week. That's in the area where it isn't uncommon for them to break.

I agree that the right side is not where it should be breaking but maybe the stress of hitting a rock,crossing a waterway, ect. just could have broken the bar. I called my dealer today and told him my 30' 1020 was parked in the lot, and I was through with it. I think it has 8,000 or so acres on it and I am ready for something else. I don't know if it will be a draper or new style flex head but I am finished with this one. I have just had too many issues with it and breaking the bar two times this season was the last straw. Red is not the only color broken is this area. Every color is available in the broken parts piles in front of the sheds. Wet ground, night cutting, and very green stemmed beans have taken their toll on the heads and machines. I just think it is time to move on to better than six year old technology. I know that new is not always better but for a short while it makes you feel better. Good luck harvesting.

Yes, 30 foot is just too long of a sickle to run in soybeans, waterways, grass, etc. I'm now more convinced than ever that the Center line Knife drive has viable merit. Running two opposed sickles, each just 15 or 20 ft long would be much easier on the knife drive. We have also had marked improvement in 930 knife drive using the SCH conversion over the original wobble box drive and JD guards, during the past two seasons.
