i have found if you set the reel teeth angle closer to the auger and lift the crop a little to the auger instead of batting the crop down to the floor it works better and run the reel a little faster to help polish and to the back like other post. also lighten up skid pressure so you are not trying to cut leaf in the row.when things get tough.,

Try taking a grinder to the edge of the auger flighting and squaring it up. I'm told this helps the auger to grab the crop. Good luck.

I have also heard if you drive 2 or 3 lock washers over the flighting on each side of the throat it will make it more agressive. I think 3_8" is the size. We tried but couldn't get the washer spread wide enough to go over the flighting. Maybe someone who has done it can help

The others have given good advice on settings.I would recommend in the mean time to apply a coat of slip-plate or other graphite paint to that area.I did that once and it scoured up instantly. Since it is soft,it will start to wear through, and polish up the rusty surface below, because the crop is rubbing over it so much easier and faster.Good luck.

Check your finger pitch. They may not have enough angle. My header started doing this a few years a go and I found out the bolts holding the pitch in the fingers had sliped and all the angle had come out of them.
