Here are some thing that I suggest you look at right away. check the bearings on the arm that the Wobble box mounts on. I lost these and did not know_care and let me tell you I cared alot when I put in a new sickle support bar(It broke)a new wobble box (It broke the crank)new sickle (it broke too.) if you don't have a good bearing in that arm it starts moving fore and aft WHIlE the cutter bar is going left to right, and you get some unholy shaking. and then you get a great big broken mess.About two grand or so of broken mess. Is you sickle sharpIJ I know it's a smart a$$ question but if you were in some grassy beans with a dull sickle it would hammer also. I hope that this helps Because I don't want to see a guy trash a head like I did becaus of some ten dollar bearings and ignorance. later, Will Got 4.5 inches of rain yesterday. Pretty much tells me I'm going to the Farm Progress Show AND the Old Threshers in Mt Pleasant Iowa next week!

Yes I have the same problem but I have the open wobble box. When I get in heavey wild onions or wild barley it starts hammering. I have to lift it above the grass. It's not the sharpness I replace the guards and sickle sections each year I even went to small serations thinking that might help. I think it is the design of the 2 inch step on the cutter bar that lets the grass just lie there and have to be cut over and over thus overloading the sickle. I am thinking of going to a John deere head that doesn't have the same problem. I would like to know if anyone is using the May West plastic seals that eliminate the 2 inch step and if they still have the problem.

two pivot bushings at rear of wobble box support arm. first skid plate breaks after these wear out. later models use a wrap-around support if you have an early style oil-bath wobble box. this helps matters somewhat...
