Not at all. I ran a 17.5' 1020 on the 1420 I used to have. Handled 60 bu beans and 80 bu wheat fine. I just didn't win any speed races but I didn't want to. Just wanted the machine full
I have a 17.5 foot 1020 head on my 1460. In 45 bushel beans I can travel along at 3.5 -3.7 mph without significant loss over the sieves. In 80 busbel wheat I am usually limited to 3.5 mph. My combine has the factory rock trap and feed reverser. I think that you can go faster without the rock trap.
our yields are anywhere from 30-70bpa's depends on field and weather, right now we have a 1-1_2" knofe in the head, we are gonna change this year and put in the 3" knife
I ran a 1440 with a 20' 820 for 10 years. Bean yields in the mid 50s most years and wheat 60-70bpa. Usually about 3.25 -33.5 mph in beans, a little less in wheat. One thing that will help is open the concaves wider, a little wider than for corn, and crank up the rotor speed to 750 or so. Unfortunately I didn't find this out until I bought a 1660, added about 1_2 mph to cutting speed.
Tony-- were you able to buy the head with the orbit reel or was it an add on laterIJ I have a new full finger head on order for a 2388 and would like the orbit setup. TIA
