I agree with the other post. On a 1020 in our area due to soil type etc. a "light" cutter bar works best. Couple of things to keep in mind: 1)The face plate or back sheet of the header should be about 10 degrees foreward at the top in the cutting position. This is a starting point and normally works well; 2) With the head lowered so the knife is just off the ground adjust flotatin springs to get about a 1" deflection if you step on it. Make sure the the knife belt is adjusted properly before adjusting the helper coil spring on the left end. Some guys like to see a little smile meaning the dividers a riding a little highter than the bar. Personal preference here. 3) Install the mechanical linkage replacement kit for the cable. Vastly improves header response and gets rid of the troublesom cable. Follow the instructions for installation and sensor tube adjustment. If installing on a 1600_1400 machine you most likely will need a resistor adaptor harness. Both of these can be found in the combine productivity kit catalog; 4)Make sure everything is scoured. If you don't have poly on the skid shoes might want to cnsider it; 5) level the header laterally if not equipped with field tracker. Hope this helps. e-mail besthornb@bartonccc.edu
