Combines 105 hp

My dad bought the first two 105s that our dealer got in. The first ones if I'm not mistaken had a 261IJ cu.in. six cylinder with a gear reduction on the bell housing. Then they turned these little things 3000 rpm to get the horses. Dad always said those first ones did a better job of threshing and cleaning than the later ones because you couldn't stuff too much in them. I was six but I remember how huge the 105s were.

Hi guys, The early 105's used the 248 gas engine with the gear reduction unit,until serial no. 5000. I don't have my serial no. book now to see the year change according to serial no. The 341 gas was used from serial no. 5001 and up. I'm sure the 404 wasn't used till 1966 it was 86 hp. In 1968 it was increased to 105hp The information you have must be a missprint or worded so it sounds like the 1961 had 105 hp. I can get the exact years to go with the serial no's if you want. I will correct some info I gave to you. The 248 was used till mid-1965 to ser. no. 5000, then the 341 ser. no. 5001,mid-1965 to 1969. The 404 was first used in 1965. The horsepower rating on these old combines were at the varable speed pulleys,or on hydro's at the intermediate pulley. These are rated more than the tractors because tractor hp is run through the pto. The 341 and 404 was rated at 105 hp. They were tuned the same as the 4020,so true engine power was the same. Flywheel hp on the 404 was around 112.

Thank you for the info and help from both of you guys. It must be a misprint in my 1961 magazine because it clearly says it has a 105 engine.
