I was hoping that was all it was. It just broke this evening, around 7:30, so will have to call the dealership in the morn. I was tired after moving the combine on tracks, on a trailer, to a new field and opening up. So I just let things cool down and walked away. A fresh start in the morning.
I broke mine last year and had a local machine shop make one because the dealer didn't have one. If I remember correctly, they just had to cut threads on one end of standard hex shaft. It was less than half price and the same thing. Pa Harvester is right it is very easy to change. CW
What tracks did you end up gettingIJ Are they working out the way you expected them tooIJ I hope so, you're over due for a break. How much more do you have to harvestIJ
I ended up buying set of Massey tracks from a neighbor that they had adapted to a 1480 in the 80's. Pretty much fit right on. I had to drill some holes for the extra bracing they had. email me for pics. I am down to 44 acres of corn. Was sailing (literaly on water) right along until the shaft went.
I haven't pulled the shaft out for a few years, but if I remember right it can be a little hard to get started when you pull it out because the shaft might be a little worn and grooved where it drives the slip clutches, in fact, I think I had to use a slide hammer to get it past the first inch or two. Then it went easy. Good luck with the rest of your harvest and be safe.
