Im not sure how you could possible mount the stalk roll bearing with the gear box off sitting on the bench and get it mounted correctly, but this is the way to do it with the gear box in place. Mount the stalk roll on the gear box, place the front bearing shaft in the bearing support, place one each of the two different shims, I think they are about .010 and .030 each, behind the bearing support and tighten the bolts. Now you should be able to move the stalk roll back and forth on the bearing shaft if every thing is in line. If it is in line turn the stalk roll a quarter turn and try moving the roll back and forth again. Keep doing that until you have turned the roll a complete round. If you cannot move the stalk roll back and forth at each quarter turn then you have to remove shims, add shims, or tighten the bearing support up in a slightly different place in the slotted holes. When all is lined up leave about .050 gap between the stalk roll spiral and the bearing support and tighten up the long set screw. Yes it takes time and patience, but if you get it mounted correctly those water pump type bearings will run a long time.
