Go to readbros.com, they sell a deck plate that will reduce the shelling you are experiencing.

Go narrower with the deck plates go to 7_8 at the front and 15_16 at the back use a cupple of sockets for a gauge try that that is how we ran our 1083s you might want to tighten knives so they are just ready to touch, gathering chains I have tryed both ways and I could not tell any difference, really important to have your drum all the way up in the feeder house to eliminate shelling and splatering there. GOOD lUCK.

Are you running the drive sprockets on the high or low sideIJ You should be able to slow the stalk rolls down and help some. However 1% loss from the header in 18% corn ain't too bad. What's your total loss. We've been able to keep our total loss at or below 2 bu un 190 bu corn. Chads

I don't know if my sprockets are on the high or low side. I hadn't ever heard of that. How do you change itIJ I definitely think it would help. I am losing at least 2 bu. in 200 bu. corn and it is all at the head. I was thinking I should be able to hold it below 1 bu. but I think your 1% is probably as good as I'm gonna get. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip. I contacted them and they have them in stock for $22. I took out 2 rows on mine and flattened them with a sledge to try that first. My employee tried it and couldn't tell any difference. I will look at it this afternoon. Thanks!

Whoops Sorry I didn't reply sooner. The sprockets on the outside of the head are reversible. You want the little sprocket on the back and the big one on the front for low speed. This is on an 800 series. I am pretty sure the 900 and 1000 series are similar. Chads
