Combines 12 Row Ready with Duals

I'd definately go with the 20.8's and the big floater rear tires. Have you ever ran a 12R head on a 2388IJ I've heard nightmares about it because of all the crop going into that tiny feederhouse, but that's all I've heard. From the little I know about the 12R ready machine, it's just some standard features that are options on the other combine, plus some weights, so unless you're set on it, you might want to stick with an 8R head.

Thanks for your input. I've talked to a few others about the 12 row head on the 88's. No one spoke about the crop flow thru the throat. Maybe others here can comment. A few years back I was at a dealer that had a area rep in to speak on the 2300's and set up of the unit. He made a statement that the Case IH had just as much capacity in the throat as the green machines. The reason being that if you looked at the Deere machine it only used the sides of the throat and not the middle of the throat for crop flow. I don't know one way or the other about that statement, it just stayed in my head since then. Mike

My reply is above. Good thing I don't do secretarial work. Mike

I have ran the 2388_2212 combination. You would like the bigger tires. I had no problems feeding all the combine could take through the feeder. The steering is a little slower due to the extra steering cylinder but that didn't take long to get used to.I hope you have a cart and plenty of trucks, she'll eat the corn. I have a TR-98 New Holland that has 18.4-42 and I will go to the 20.8-42 tires next time. Not that the 18.4 don't work but you can never have to much tire. That cost of bigger tires is not very much on a $160000.00 combine to spend.

I was wondering what you thought of the 2212 corn headIJ Do you think it is as good a head as the Case IH headIJ I have yet to order the corn head, and was thinking of getting the Bish modified (stretched) 12 row head instead of the Red NH head. Mike

Mike, I would go with the 2212 simply for the hydraulic adjustable stripper plates and cantilevered stalk rolls.

I run a 2388 with a 12 row NH Head which is exactly what the new red ones are. We have run it three years and will never go back to 8rn. The feeding is not an issue at all. The only trouble I have had is the header drive belt because on our older machine it is a 3 groove belt. After installing cevlarIJIJ belt have had no problem. New 2388s have 4 or 5 groove belts anyway. 18.4 -42 duals work well for us because of tall ridges I don't like the sidewall flex of the 20.8s. Good luck I think you will get along great.
