Combines 1420 1620

I just traded off a 1420 last spring that I had for 10 years.(I bought it used) loved it!! It was an excellent little machine. I may not have moved the bushels per hour that the neighbor next to me did, but what would I do when I got done so much earlier. I just did regular preventive maintanance every year before harvest and never really had a catastrophic breakdown. (You'll always have an old hose break or a belt that you missed.) I covered 600 acres_yr with it.

We recently bought a 1620 and if you read the manuel it says it is rated for a 6 row cornhead and a 20' platform.

Aaron, the 1983-84 IH Buyer's Guides do list a 1420 as capable of handling a 6RN cornhead, although I have never seen one with a 6RN head. As far as the D-358, that engine was continued in the 1620s until mid-1989 production when Case used the 5.9liter engines in the 1620s after that. Remember, the German diesel plant(Neuss plant, whatever you want to call it) was purchased by Case from International Harvester in the 1985 merger, so it was considered a "Case engine", of sorts.

The owners manual says up to a 6 row narrow for a 1420. I had one for six years. It was a good machine, just not big enough if you had to get in a hurry. I harvested around 650 acres a year with it; corn, wheat, and soybeans. Ran a 4 row wide corn head and a 20ft. 820 grain head

i have a 1986 1620 that i bought 2 years ago. i went from a 715 to this machine. i run a 1020 15' grain head and 843 corn head. i want a 1043 head. i'm very happy with this set up. i know and feel your pain on the 715. i think a 1620 is better in the cab, eletronics and hydraulics. jmho fwiw Duane
