I went through the same search a few years ago. I found that a lot of the 80's had seen a lot of hard and abusive work pushed through them. I bought a 1985 model 1460 with over 3000hrs on it, but it had good ownership=no dents, welds, or repaint jobs. After a total inspection I spent about $600 to make it field ready. Since then I have updated it with the Estes disrupter, new sieve and chafer, and a hydrostat rebuild to make it a greaseable like the 2300 series. It runs great for me with now over 4000hrs on it.

I would look for wear on the axles; make sure there are no cracks or weldings. Also would look at the elephant ears and wear bars at the front of the rotor. Check the auger flightings for excessive wear, If the Hydro whines excessively it may need to have them rebuilt ($1500-2000) If you are going to use it in Beans you will want one with a chopper. The later ones (1982-1985) with the electric over hydraulic are the better models. GOOD lUCK

The new 2300's have a grease zirt on the hydro's pulley to keep the shaft lubed. This is supposed to reduce wear considerably on the shaft. I then had to drill a hole through the hydro's belt shield to expose the zirt to give it a pump or two a year.
