I replaced the Motorolla alternator on my 1460 with an old style Delco. It works really well. I had a rebuilder make me one that is 110 amps. It bolts up onto the existing mounts with no modifications.

At the Peoria, Il Farm Show there was a company by the name of PandG Keene that is making a special alternator for combines for this specific reason. They claim this will take care of the problem with the dust burning them out. They were pretty pricey at over $200 for a 110 amp alternator. They are located at 1202 E. Washington Ave., East Peoria, Il 61611. Phone 309-694-3800.

We use to run two 1460's. One of them had a Delco alternator, on this machine we would replace an alternator every year. The other one had a different brand of alternator, one with out brushes, finally found another one of these brushless alternators and put that on run it for 3 years and never had a problem with the alternator again. When we traded off the combines swapped it with back to the Delco. Still have the alternator and would sell if someone was interested. If you want to know the name and make E-mail me and i will write you back.
