Combines 1460 model years

I would look for a 1460 to get the extra hp. The 1440 is ok in the day but at night you really have to slow down.

1982-1985 is what I would look for. I'm more familiar with the 1480, but I think that some of the changes were done acoss all models. I would look for a 1460 vs. a 1440, you would want the extra capacity of the 1460 for probably the same money. There is quite a difference in a 1978-1981 model vs. a 1982. Controls are the most noticeable, as you mentioned. More horsepower, and a lot of little changes to bearings, drives, etc. that made the combine stronger and more reliable. like I said, I'm not sure what they did to the 1460, but the 1982 1480 was almost like a different, larger series combine vs. the 1981.

We have a '78 1440 and a '83 1460 and the 1460 is alot more machine. I would say the electric hydraulics are alot nicer, one less lever to run. For the same money a 1460 is a better choice, haveing the turbo makes a big difference, especially for dumping on the go.
