Combines 1470

Yes I am familiar with them. One of my customers runs one that I service every fall. The story is that around 7-10 of these machines "escaped" E.Moline as you say, "1470 level-land." They are equipped as follows: * basically a 1460, with 24" rotor (as all 1470s were) * no hillside hydraulics or pump, but the switch holes are in the dash. * IH DT466 engine, with Bosch in-line pump. No aftercooler. * inclined tank bubble up auger * two-speed hydro (the RWA switch is used for this) * 1470 decals and serial plate, with black CASE International decals and red cab This particular farmer's machine also has cross-flow fan, chopper and spreader, and full GPS yield_moisture monitor, rock trap. It is quite the machine.

Several years ago I was looking at buying a 1470 exctly as you describe it, at the now defunct Walterman Imp.in Dike, IA. It was a NICE combine. He wanted $18K, which I thot was too high. I ended up buying a 1688 (at another dealer) for $5K more, which I have never regretted!

I believe we are talking of the same machine. Wow $23K for a 1688IJIJ That's a steal!

For that price it came directly from the farm w_o going thru the dealers shop. I got it from Birkey's in western Il. I had to spend a little putting in a new chaffer mounting bracket frame. Pretty pricey for not more then it is. Saw a heavier aftermarket one advertised somewhere this fall. Up until this fall I had very little repairs to make. Seems I had a few more breakdowns, such as a final drive seal leaking, even tho the bearings were still good. Mechanic had to torch off a good $150 bearing to to get it off. The previous owner had put 2188 finals on it, and most of the dealers around here said they seldom work on those. Also had to rebuild a 3 yr. old unload auger elbow gearbox. Wonder if the previous guy had mistimed the auger a little as it sure seems to run smoother and easier now. Tore 2 rotor belts in less then 2 acres. My brother did the 1st one and spent several hrs unslugging it and I went half a round and tore the second one and it went w_o warning! Found out my bro. had forced on the belt w_o loosening the rotor mount. Prob. tore the cords doing that Cost $283 and several more hrs downtime. Dealer said the new belt has kevlar cords and is MUCH stronger. No more probs. after that. I also ran a 2' long dual clamp thru it in the same customers field. Broke a rotor bar and some chopper bolts. Haven't checked the vanes real close yet. This comb. also came with a Field Tracker which I would'nt do w_o anymore after seeing how well it works. I also put in a new chaffer this fall and would really like to put on Gordon Bars and a Stewart Steel acc. to finish "tricking out" this machine. Then on the other hand I'm kinda belly aching for a good higher houred 2388 (or late 2188) if I could get one at a bargain price! I find it a little hard to justify with the acres that I do, but for the right priceIJIJ It's Christmas season and my birthday is coming up, maybe my wife would let me buy my own present!! I'll have to buy her a new Dining set 1st, tho!! Have a Merry Christmas everyone!!
