Combines 1480 back brake shaft stuck

Rodger, Take the right side pannel off the cab and remove the plate from the floor, that will give you limited access to the shaft. About all you can do through that hole is squirt some lube on it, bang and pry. I did that to my 1460 every few days for a month and it's still stuck. I can't figure why that shaft gets frozen so tight. The manual shows plastic bushings, so it must not be a tight fit. A Case mechanic told me they use a torch to free them up, but I'm afraid to try that in that area. Also that would melt the plastic bushing and I might still end up having to remove the shaft to replace them. It looks like a difficult job to remove the shaft, might have to take the seat and floor out to get access. Another Case mechanic said they are not worth fixing because you can't stop them from leaking fluid. I would still like to have brakes if anyone knows a fix.

Go to a brake shop and get the right size brake cup expanders(little flattened metal cones) They expand the cups using spring pressure and stop the fluid leak. you need to use them with the internal spring if not factory equipped.

These expanders, are they used in the master cylinders or the actuating units. Sounds like a really good idea and any additional info would be quite helpfull. Thanks

The cup expanders are used in the slave_actuator cylinders. Almost all automotive drum brake cylinders use them. The 1480 actuator cylinders need 2 expanders per cylinder,to seal both the piston cup and the second cup used to seal the bottom if the actuator cylinder.

you have to free up the shaft first. which i use cnh histrengh penetrent, keep working it and it will free up then use regular penetrant for lube. also i take a soft plug and put in the bottom of the slave cylinder because that is always where you lose brake fluid. it takes a shallow soft plug. and only tighten to ome third pedal or it will heat and seize.

Iaremec, By one third pedal, can you explane. Do you mean adjust so that the master cly does not move until the pedal is depressed one thirdIJ I'll try some stronger penetrant, been using Blaster and WD-40. Thanks for help.
