Redekop and a couple of others made straw choppers in Canada for various combines including CIH. The Redekop processes both the straw and the chaff, and it may the same as the chopper used on the Deere STS machines or very similar. The Redekop site is not up and running yet, but I am sure you can find a phone number by checking a directory search site for Saskatchewan. There was other ones called the Straw storm and Urvold, but that is about all I know about them.

You can buy a brand new one from your Case IH dealer for a 2388 and it fits. There is only one additional shaft you will have to buy. It is the quill shaft that goes right through the chopper gearbox. I did this to a low hour 1982 model 1460 three years ago. I ordered a brand new 2366 chopper from our dealer and he installed it. The only extra item was the early style quill shaft with 4 splines on it. The total cost was $6600 Canadian dollars ($4400 US dollars) installed -5000 for the chopper, 350 for the shaft, and the rest was labor. It made a real good combine out of it and was money well spent.

George2 I have neighbors who run rotaries that wish they had choppers. This machine is "new" to me. Have always had choppers on masseys before. These machines were sold as not needing choppers but now they put them in the new ones so that tells you something. Why did you put a chopper on your machineIJ Thanks for your response.

I put it on to be able to use a field cultivator to work up soil immediately after combining soybeans. I then plant winter wheat after working the soil once. Without a chopper the cultivator (CIH 4800) just plugs up and makes a mess. It was well worth it. They tell me it also improves the resale value on trade in. It is also good for chopping up wheat straw.
