They are fairly similar, except the first of the 1680 had higher horsepower, 230 vs 210, approximately. The 1680 also had an inclined bubble up auger instead of the exit at the side of the hopper the 1480s had, and the cabs had small detail improved, like a padded passenger seat.

I think 1680 had more holes in the cage, you could adjust more vanes, and they had extended concaves. Track down SDMan's articles in toytractorshow.com to see just the axial flows have evolved throughout the years. Pretty interesting articles and they answer alot of questions.

The 16 series has a different cage with more openings and easier adjustment of vanes. It has a larger clean grain elevator and different system at the top to better handle wet corn and rice. The unloading auger controls is different and the auger goes out pass 90 degrees so the operator can better see the end. And as mentioned more power. Just a few improvements over the originals.
