depends on which 1680 you're talking about. Early 1680s weren't that much different than 1480s.

If I remember correctly some of the improvement to the 14xx series when they when to the 16xx series was larger elevators, both clean grain and return and improved capacity for handling wet corn and rice. Rotor cage was changed too. Early Cummins engines used on the 16xx series were run at 2600 rpm and caused some problems, but I think that was resolved. So maybe the 1680 would be worth the extra money in your situation. A 1688 would be a better choice.

Agree with your post except for 1 error, all tailings_return elevators on 40_44_60_66_80_88 are the same size.

1480 vs. 1680 depends a lot on what year the combine was made if you are looking for power. The 1480s from 79-81 had a 190 hp 436 engine and were therefore underpowered. From 82-85 they had a 466 rated at 210 hp., which was an improvement. The 1680s from 86-89 had the same 466 but with slightly more hp., and the 1680s after that had the cummins with at least 235 hp. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Good luck!
