Combines 1480

No brakes is a common ailment on these machines. Fix 'em up and they don't last long. 15' head is way too small for the capacity of the machine. Check the shaker system out thoroughly as well. I'm not sure what the price of a machine like that should be. HTH

How many acres are you hoping to run, what kind of yields, and what crops are you runningIJ Off hand I'd say for not a lot more money you could get into a 1600 series with fewer hours. At any rate, unless you are in some very heavy straw you won't be happy with a 15' head on a 1480. No brakes is common for 1400 series. Good luck

Price is way way way off!! The head is not suitable for that size machine either. You didn't state if it had a chopper, electric over hyd controls, and what the tires were likeIJIJIJ I'd be thinking about a price that is about 1_3 of what that guy is asking..... Just my .02

In my opinion, that price is WAY TOO MUCH. No brakes is very common on the 1400 and even the 1600 series.

14 series goes for far less at auctions. Get a mechanic that knows these combines to go over it for you, you can put 10k in repairs easy and some of those oil leaks can be cheap or expensive to fix. Needs at least a 20' platform, a good one will run 4-7k at auction. If it needed absolutly nothing and had new paint and no rust, a 22' 1020 platform it might be worth the asking price on a good day.

I agree with the other posters. That is pretty high. I assume, being an 80 model it still has the manual controls, which isn't all bad. We bought a 1480 rice about 4 years ago, with a JD 220 head. Gave 10,000 for the outfit. We have spent close to that on it since then but it has been over a lot of acres. Watched a pretty nice 1480 sell on a consignment acution for $5200. No 4-wd and specialty rotor. Personally, I would boot the head, and the combine is worth 6-10 k if it is nice, with 4wd. Sometimes, the best thing to do, is have a guy consign something like this at an auction. Then, the whole country can decide what it is worth. Chads

Yep,it's high for that machine.He's kind of attached to it as it was his dad's.Going to look for somthing with less hours,similar price. I'm on 300 acres in southern Ontario and grow Apples and Ginseng along with the grain, rye(5'straw),wheat(70-90 bu.),soys(40-60),and corn(150-200)..So don't have a lot of time in the fall to fix.I bale the straw for mulch. 1480 in Wheat (our experience in ND) Rotor - 900-1000 rpm Concave - Small wire almost all the way closed Fan - 850-950 rpm

thanks a bunch. 2188 ran at rotor 750-900 and fan at 800-950, so it's quite close to 1480, it seems. barley will be slightly slower, less closed, more air. i'll just do 2188's canola settings and see what happens.
