Combines 1482 1682

They are great combines for the money and will do a great job in those crops. Be warned that they are getting old and repairs can cost a lot like any machine. I wouldn't pay any more than $6000 -$7000 for a 1482 and that would have to be premium. A good 1682 can usually be found for $10000 - $12000 (cdn). The 1682 would be a better buy, more capacity and better feeding. Some repair examples: tire $1700, gearbox $5000+, rotor drive (not driven) pulley $2200, shaft to run that pulley $850, header drive clutch $1200. These are things that surprise people. I would recommend buy one cheap and if something big goes buy another and keep first for parts. One positive they are very easy to work on.

You'll definitely want to look for one with a chopper, and maybe a rocktrap if you in an area that needs one. I don't think I'd go for a mechanically driven pickup if you can't adjust the speed of it on the go like you can with a hydraulic one. I'd also go for a belt pickup and not a steel one. Does someone know whether a 1682 has the newer 1680 cage with the larger concaves and separating areaIJ That would be the only difference I could think of between a 1482 and 1682, as most of the changes between a 1480 and 1680 were with the engine, cab, etc. You have a good tractor to pull the combine, I can tell you that. Go with the 1682. They have the bigger concaves which increased capacity. But the main increase in capacity is in the header and feeder house. The 1482 had terrible feeding. The mechanical drive pickup is adjustable from the tractor seat. look for a machine with a header reverser. We ran 2 1482's for years. They are a great cheap high capacity machine. Personally I wouldn't pay any more than about $15,000 for a premium 1682. They are getting old (14 years) and can cost a lot of money to keep going. One bonus is that there are a lot of these machines being wrecked so used parts are available. A good 1482 is worth about $7000. Canadian funds. Try to find one with a rebuilt gearbox. Good luck.
