I know it is just a thought I have been reading the research articles on the 15" corn and all sounds good I just thought maybe a small farmer can make an extra buck this way all the land I am currently farming has high fertility due to an abunce of manure that is why I am considering and thinking about the 15" row corn idea I know I should be thinking of inventig something else but I was wondering if it would work wirh a gleaner head and wandering of any suceess stories alot of red and green heads I have already seen set on 15" but all are customized dairyfarmer
IF I had the inclination to do 15" row corn with my K2 (which would never be worth it for me),instead of investing a lot of time, effort, and money to convert an A-series head (which might not work out right anyway),I would have Bish make a 15" head out of a JD 344 or 343 frame, and use their adapter to put it on the Gleaner.
Do yourself a favor and look at 20" or even 22". We are on 20's and let me tell you the machinary end of it is a pan in the kister. I know of another farmer around here that is talking about moving from 15's to 20's because of the machines. I believe to do 15's you are going to be down to one chain, and the only one outhere is either Calmer or Case gearbox. I have been known to be wrong before though.
Have you considered twin rows IJIJ There was just a recent article in one of the farm magazines ( I believe it was Successfull Farming) comparing twin rows to 20" to 30". The twin rows were consistantly higher than the 30" rows and equal to if not higher than the 20" rows. The beauty of it is there is not much expense to switching to twin rows. Just some more thoughts on the subject.
