Combines 1620

I recently purchased a 1440 with about 2200 hours and have no problems with parts. In northwestern Ohio the red combines are very popular. There are still some 14 series and many 1660's around. But, few 1620's. I have two dealers within 20 miles so I don't expect any issues with parts or service.

If the 1620 fits the size of your operation (acres and the time you have to harvest those acres) I don't think you will be disapointed with the machine. I used to have a 1420, which I don't think was to much differant than the 1620 other than cosmetics. I had a 4-36 corn head and a 20 ft. platform and it handled them fine. I couldn't go as fast as the big dogs but I could make a crow starve from what came out the back end of it. I never had much of a problem getting parts for it as alot of the belts, pullies and chains were the same as on the 1440 and 1460's. The same would hold true for the 1600 series I would think.

i have a 1620 w_15' 1020 and 843 corn head. you'll like this combine. you'll be fine on a 16.5 head. i would not consider a 6 row head. its not made for it. part should be fine. although there isn't much in the after market due to the smaller rotor. jmho fwiw Duane

i have had a 1620 for 3 years. it is a nice combine. much better than the 715 it replaced. mine had 2600 hrs. on it. the dealer put $8000 worth of parts in it before i bought it. paid $25000. i would think you could buy it cheaper than that today. i already had the 1020 15' head and 843 corn head. i personally would not run a 6 row head. the grain tank is not that big. mine has an extension and will hold 140 to 150 bu. you might get by with a bigger grain head but again its more suited to the 15'. jmho Duane

I looked at a 1620 last winter and backed away because of the issue with a 6 row CH. Although I heard it was advertised as a 6 row, most everyone told me it was really a 4 row machine. 15' grain head probably okay. I ended up with a 1440 with a 15' GH and a 6 row CH.

We purchased an 87 model last winter with 600 hrs, 4wd, 15' 1020 platform and a 1044 cornhead. We paid 35,000 for everything. We're on 30" rows and we too wondered how it would handle a 6 row head. Instead of buying a 4 row narrow we added an extra row unit to our 1044. What kind of bin extensions do you haveIJ

the bin extension is called "c-thru". clarence and charles goodall sidwell il 61876. it came with the combine. it is the height of the cab. hth Duane

I used to have an IH 1420 that I ran with a 4 row wide corn head and a 20ft. flex grain head. It handled both heads fine. I have picked 180-200 bu. corn at 24% moist. with mine, just have to go slower. Same with the 20 ft. head, just went slower. The book shows that a 6 row narrow is the maximum size head for the 1420_1620. It also shows that a 17.5 ft. flex head as the max. but my 20 ft. worked just fine. Bin extension are a big help.

The engine only had 2400 hours on it.It is at AIS in Grand Rapids,MI getting a major overhaul.
