The shaft that your fan pulley's (upper) run on has a key in there, my key was torn up and allowed play in the pulley's-- it did the same thing yours did. Take everything apart and i bet this will be your problem. Mine got hung up on that back pulley and would not let me adjust fan speed. Good luck!
