Dave, i seem to recall we had such a problem on our 1688. This was a while back and is testing my memory but i think it ended up being dust gathering on a contact point somewhere along the line. Used to work ok and then cut out at any time, like you said, drive it back to the workshop and it would work fine. Can't quite remember if it was related to the seat switch or something similar. Our auto cut out was by-passed before so i'll have a think about it and if i remember what it was i'll get back to you. Sorry for not being all that much help.
