We have a 1644 with a 20 foot 1020, we can usually cut at 2.8 to 3.5 MPH depending on conditions.

I have a 1992 1640 that I have a 20' 1020 head on the front. I ran 3.3-3.5 mph in 45 bushel beans this year and got along just fine. I have the cummings motor and really have to go 4.0 mph to get it to pull down the RPMs. I just run slower so the head will cut good. I run a 6 row corn head and am ammazed at how well it handles it. 4.0 mph in 175 bushel corn.

I've thought about a 20' foot head, but I don't think my short unloading auger will hit the truck. Do you have the short or long augerIJ I have a 15' platform. Thanks.

What is your terrain likeIJ We traded in a 1640 last year for a 2366. We ran a 15' platform and 4RW cornhead on it. We certainly did not want anything bigger most of the time in our hills. Get in decent yielding crops, with a half full or more grain tank, and she would really struggle to climb up. It was not unusual to slow WAY down. Seperating_threshing capacity was not the problem, power was, even with our tweaked pump. Flatlanders call this a 20' machine, for us, there was times we wish we had a 12' or so on the front.
