Your shifter cable is not dropping down into the lower shaft. If you put it in nuetral and back in the same slot as your second gear and then look down by the end of the cable the bar will probably not be dropped down. I had the same problem with a 1440. I just tryed to spray some lubricant in the cable and work it in. Its that or just replace the cable.

We have that same deal too when shifting into second at times. It happens when you try to shift it fast, just slow down a little bit and it'll slip into second every time.

You guys were right. I put some wd 40 on the linkage and cleaned out some trash , now it shifts just fine. Apparently I was in 1st when I thought I was in 2nd.
