Combines 1660 unloading auger noise

The noise you discribe sounds to me like an auger which is out of balance. Has this auger been replaced recentlyIJ If so it could be that the new auger is defective. If the auger has not been replaced than it may have gotten bent by starting it full of wet grain. At any rate in my years (24) of working with the Axial flow combines an empty auger will be louder than a full auger but it shouldn't make you ask about it. Mick.

there is a hole on the main horizontal tube newr the elbow where it pivots - you might want to pull that off and check the elbow gearbox. make sure the shafts have no play in them. also, turn the auger and see if it wobbles - it may be bent. the eary augers were one piece, the later augers are split where the rear tube joins together at the "saddle". the two piece auger is better because it has a carrier bearing in the center. We went through 3 new one augers that were bent coming from case. we finally switched over to the 2 piece auger.
