Cylinder bars feed, concaves thresh. As far as the threshing of green beans, different harvest seasons offer different conditions. However,if you were having more difficulties than your neighbors, then you do have a problem. Concaves can be rebuilt. Many welding_machine shops do that. The spec rotor should do a good job of handling tough beans.Take off the half-moon cover at the front of the rotor, and see how worn the impeller blades and wear bars are. They are the first thing to getting the crop moving. They should have a square edge.If it is rounded off much,it will not move the crop mat efficiently.Check the vanes in the transition cone and in the rotor cage to see if they are rounded off,or bent over.If you decide to replace the rotor bars, give the Gorden bars a look.

Swede is right, cylinder bars feed and the concaves thrash. The crossbars on the concaves need some height above the wires and they need to be fairly square. If your cylinder bars are getting the crop through the rotor in good shape I would surely check out the concaves. Wheat is the most critical of all crops to have a square bar. We take ours to St. John Welding in St. John, Kansas to get built up and then ground square. They get a lot of concaves in by truck too. They can straighten bent concaves too.Where are you fromIJ There might be someplace closer to get them worked over. WC

i'm located in south central iowa so i just run corn and beans 1000 acres 50_50 split. you recommended the gorden bars did you mean for wheat or are they good for corn and beans alsoIJ the problem i had with the beans (i think) was that the pods weren't staying in the rotor long enough to get threshed. then it would overload the screens and returns. what kind of concave setup do you recommend(wire size, pull every other wireIJ) thanks again for responding to a bunch of dumb questions from a dumbfarmer!
