Combines 1660

Thanks for the reply chad. I also have some more questions for you and I guess who ever else can answer them for me. On my farm we grow a variety of things, including: chickpeas, lentils, wheat, canola and mustard, and I was wondering which opinions would be the best to get the best thrashing and efficiency. Some opinions I am curious about getting would be getting a cross-flow fan vs. a regular fan, long sieves vs regular sieves, whether to get a specialty rotor or a standard rotor, etc. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

we only cut corn soybeans, and wheat. Make sure the grates around the rotor have every wire in them and not every other wire. Every other wire does not work well in wheat. We only have the cross-flow fans, so not much help there. We have the long sieves in our 1666 with short fingers on the bottom sieve, and regular lenght sieves with long fingers on the bottom in our 1660. In had conditions in beans and wheat the sample can get a little dirty with the long fingers, other than that it is a good sample. We have both rotors and not a big differance, slower rotor speeds with the specialty rotor and con cut a little longer when the dew falls at night.

With the many different crops that you are harvesting I'd stick with an Axial-flow. They are the easiest combine to set for whatever crop you are harvesting.

We had the same thing happen with a 1680. leakage inside the hydraulic system was causing the movement of the feeder house. There is a small, inexpensive valve that you need to get from the dealer. They will know what you need if you tell them the symtoms. I think there is a service bulletin on it also.

If you have a 7720 Titan 2 I don't know if you will have more capicity. But if you have one of the early 7720's you will have more capictiy. The cab on the 1660 will be quiter because you will have no engine noise like in the Deere. All in all if the price is right the 1660 would do the job for your amount of acres.

I know this isn't corn, but the western Canada combine evaluations by PAMI rated the 1660 as follows, and the reference II combine is a Deere 7720. The CIH rotaries are better corn shellers than the cylinder_walker machines, so you should be better off. Just get a good CIH operator to help you get is adjusted right. "In barley, the Case IH 1660 had approximately 1.40 times the capacity of the PAMI Reference II combine at 3% total grain loss. In wheat, at 3% total grain loss, the capacity of the Case IH 1660 was 1.20 to 1.30 times the capacity of the Reference II combine."

For what you have to harvest should be a good choice. Should be able to do better job and more comfortably with 1660. Certainly won't be losing any capacity especially in corn.
