I read on the website about the fuel lines that go over the transmission case that there is some wires that are close to these fuel lines and rub a hole in them and may have caused the fires. I have pulled up those wires on my 1660 and tied them up to the angle iron frame above the fuel lines. Jack in MN

In reply to your combine fire on a 1680, I may have a few ideas. I have logged over 10,000 hrs. on Axle Flows, 1440, 1480,1680, 2188. What happened to us on our 1680 was the plastic line from the either can rubbed a hole in the high pressure fuel line spraying the motor with diesel. We caught it in time with no fire but could have been a bad one. We have had smoldering carbon pits behind the motor on the deck cause problems and a small fire behind the batteries. These carbon pits are coming from the muffler when the trottle is opened up and the motor isn't up to working temperature. You get hot carbon form the inside of the exhaust pipe blowing out. Just a few ideas, we have been lucky no flames.

I have a Gleaner R-50 with deutz air cooled engine and it catches on fire some time twice a day if conditions are very dusty. But I usually smell it before it gets to big to handle with a small amount of water.
