Combines 1680 concaves

Yes you will need wide wire concaves or you will do a lot of damage to your peas. I don't know of anyone with a set. If you find a set, they don't need to be straight as long as they fit in the brackets. (Bent ones are usually cheaper or free) Peas thresh very easily and the concave is set half way open so it doesn't matter if they are straight.

When you say pods, I am assuming you are referring to them being unthreshed. If so have you tried retarding the transport vanesIJ Specialty or std rotor and what is the hardware like on the rotorIJ Assuming you are using large wire, what about putting a small wire (if you have them) in the first position or using coverplates on the first concave. Best would be to renew concaves, but you might think about these ideas. My .02 for what its worth.

Definately, slow the flow of beans out of the concave. Even just a little will put extra thresh on the pods. look at the concaves to ensure there are no poke holes in them. Plus, check your sieves to make sure one or more of the finger bars isn't broken off.

I should have been more specific - I get pod shells with the beans (not whole pods unless they are really green). However, It's possible the pods are getting through the concaves and being threshed in the cleaning system or elevator. Anyway, I'm running large wire concaves with a std rotor,new rasp bars and disrupters. I've got more work to do on the tightening the clearance between the maze bars and the disrupters, but I think the threshing area is what needs attention. btw what would a small wire concave costIJ Would the cover plates be a better than the small wire concaveIJ Thanks, Pat

Try just touching closed your bottom sieve, and I mean just touch it, close it until you see a lot of thrashed good beans in return elevator. It doesn't take much.

last time I checked a new concave from CIH was around $500. Have not really had any experience with aftermarkets. Cover plates are much cheaper and easier to work with. Don't have to pull replace a concave section and then worry about getting 0 back if worn differently. Sonds more like a cleaning problem if the pods are threshed with no grain. I would agree to adjusting the shoe. What is going on with grain loss. If it is nil then I would look at possibly closing the chaffer first before I went to the cleaning sieve. Check you operators manual, there should be a chart to help set that. If you don't have that there is a combine performance handbook available from the dealer. Also there is a slide rule type of setting guide that has the same informaiton on it.

I run a lowen ROUND HOlE bottom sieve (3_8) hole, this lets the beans in and the pods go to the return. Ran one in the Gleaner so now running one in my 1680. $325 last I checked. I can get going sooner and run later, pods won't go thru the 3_8 hole just beans.
