Combines 1680 oil consumption

I agree. less than 1 gallon per 100 hrs seems reasonable for this application. I think most of these engines probably burn that much, but would like to hear from others if they get by with less.

I was always led to believe on the CDC engine that oil useage in the 1 qt. per 100 gallons of fuel used was concidered normal.

suppose to use 1 quart per 100 gal of fuel. they can be deceiving. do not fill crankcase to full mark when cold. only to about half between full and add. oil expands enough yo put over full and engine blows oil out everything over full.when warmed up. check warm or do the above. cummins engines only.

keep an eye on the rear engine seal, they are known to go out at 1400-1700 hrs. they will puddle oil under the rear of engine. when you replace it get one from Cummins not Case

I got a 1680 with a cummins, I can run for some days with out adding oil, then the next day I might have to add 2 to 3 qts for next day or two. I have checked the turbo to see if it is pushing oil, it was ok, I'm just going to run it until it gets worse.

1 qt per 100 gals seems excessive to me. Ive driven trucks with cummins in them that will run for 5000miles without adding a drop of oil. That roughly equates to 600gals of fuel . Now I realize that combines run until much harsher conditions( dust and constant high loads) but 1qt for 100gals of fuel still seems excessive. Excessive to the point that its more then normal, but not excessive to the point of losing sleep.
