Todd, The grain bin vertical unloading auger would be really thin at 2000 hrs. Open the inspection hole at the bottom of the auger to get a good look. One thing to remember, the 1680 just has one hr. meter and that is engine hrs. 2000 engine hrs will equal about 1400 to 1700 rotor hrs. depending on hrs. on the road and if it was unloaded on the go or stopped. K.A.

I think before I started looking at the machine the first thing to do,assuming that Mr. Walterman is alive, is to just ask him or her. If they are not alive ask a neighbor and get a feel for this person's reputation of honesty and look at his farming practices. I would most certainly take my CIH mechanic with me to examine much more than the unload auger on any old combine at an auction. It is quite easy to put 10-15 thousand in an old combine and still have an old combine. When you fall for an old lady, she never gets any younger no matter how much you love her and spend on repairs. Same said for the "fellar". Good luck.

I've heard the same thing. look at the hours. Are they realistic for the number of years that the machine has run taking into account that Walterman deals with a lot big boys. A case in point, a local farmer recently told me of a 1680 that he purchased from his dealer with only 1100 engine hours. He said he got a great deal. I asked him how many people that he knew who only put on 75 to 100 hrs on a machine that cost well over $120k. My 1680 is the same year as his and has about 2600hrs, which I don't believe is any high number.

Hey guys!!Give them a chance, I personally have had great service and experience with Waltermans, saved me over $7000 on a new combine. And when they deliveried it,nothing was out of adjustment when I went to the feild. It should be very easy to look at and tell aprox. how many hr the machine has. Try doing this on machines in dealers lots before you ask the hrs....Every where I go other dealers are telling stories about Waltermans, hmmmm wounder who has more clout with CaseIHIJ I can tell you a true story, I just got a call from the Swatzrock CaseIH salesman manager telling me "I had another figure in the calculator and I gave you the wrong bid". I got to thinking, maybe I should give my elevator a call and re-sell some corn. This could be fun!!!

I spoke with a dealer from southern Iowa who complained that Walterman has beat them on trades by as much as $25k, believe it or not. I deal with them and love it, but I still go there with my eyes open. P.S. don't touch the CIH 9150 on the auction, she's got bad carma.

Hey, if one at the auction doesn't work out for you, he should have one that does. When I was there in the spring of '02, I lost count somewhere between 3 and 4 hundred. Then they were stacked up 3 deep by the new 4 lane. WOW. Never saw so many Axial Flows in one place in all my life. Good luck in your search.
