Combines 1680 rebuild

If you do the work that you can do yourself, it won't cost anywhere near that much. I had a 1680 burn just as you described, used three fire extinguishers trying to put it out and then waited thirty minutes for the fire department. I decided to upgrade mine to the larger motor they put in the 1688 and 2188 so I ran into much more expense than I would have had I gone back with the original style motor. A lot of not readily aparent changes meant that a lot of parts I thought would fit didn't. Anyway, my cost was still 10,000 less than what you project. I bought a motor and transition gearbox`from Abeline Machine and had it checked out locally. If you don't currently belong to United Farm Supply in Edmund, Oklahoma, join and you will save far more than initial fees on this one project. You can buy all the caseih parts direct for thirty percent off. I needed a new floor under the motor, wiring harnesses belts all sheet metal around air chute, radiator, right side panel etc. The combine works as good as my 2188 since it has the same exact cleaning system, fan, motor, etc. Bad part....Plan on wearing it out because its value in the area will probably be that of a burned machine.
