Combines 1680 vs 2166

The 2166 is the update of the old 1660. That means your 1680 is bigger than a 2166. Besides from runing the 1680 and talking to a friend owning a 2188, I would keep the 1680. The 21 series had a lot of problems. That's why it didn't take long for CASE to launch the 23 series. Your 1680 is easy to rebuild and it can be tuned up to run with a 1688 easy. YoungFeller what I have read so far about your technical interest and questions, I think you can rebuild a 1680.

I think the 2166 will easily run with a 1680, and I have never heard of "lots of problems" with them. We have had one 2166 and two 2366's and the 2166 was the most dependable machine we've ever run. I would trade it if money allows. Even if you rebuild the 1680, in five years you'll have a machine with over 4000 hours on it that's not worth much money. Think about the engine too. You may be looking at a $5000.00 overhaul on the 1680 soon. If you plan to stay with a 6 row head, the 2166 will run with it.

This is probably what we will do, we were just talking "if the chance arose" type stuff. You are right about my technical interests, there are plenty, as far as rebuilding a combine, i helped a lot on the 1460 getting ready for sale, this was 3 or 4 years ago, and i am only 15. Thanks a lot, YoungFeller
