Combines 1688 2188

Case made a major improvement in cab design in the 21XX. If it wasn't for the engine noise through the throttle cable you wouldn't know the machine was running. They added bells_whistles, still the rotor out of a 1480 will fit a 2388. Capacity increases come from more Hp and getting it to the rotor.

If you can choose between a 1688 and a 2188 that is in the same condition with more or less the same hrs - price difference because of models - you will go for the 1688 IJ

If you can find a 1680 (cummins engine) or 1688 that's been well cared for, I would go that route to avoid the electronics on the 2188 and 2388. If you want the nice cab and ultimate performance, I would skip the 2188 and go to the 2388 to get the extra HP and perhaps better reliability. I get the impression it took a while to get the bugs out of the 21XX series, but don't have enough data to back that up.
