Must add also, this header was operated previously on a 1660 and worked well. The same potentionmeter (spIJ) works for both combines according to parts manual.

Hello, we had the exact same problem with our machine. Turns out it was the wiring going from the bottom of the cab to the connector on the feeder house. We tested it for shorts and that was the problem. Put a new harness on and it has worked flawless ever since (knock on wood of course!).

Found out from a dealer just recently that the most common problem with automatic headers is with the pipe under the header. Take the cable off the POT, and see if the cable snaps back by it self when you put a vise grip on it. He says that the cables tend to seize up in the off season. The combine won't work properly if the header gets stuck in the wrong position, or works to hard.
