If the new bearings get so hot the oil leaks out the seals, Somethings wrong. Bearings are rated for load and RPM. On a chopper use a high RPM bearing. Good luck

Thanks for the reply, Silver Bullet. I did use the bearings packaged from CIH, and yes, the grease was leaking out of the seals. I just talked to someone else in my area who had the same problem on a 1680 a short time ago. Two new bearings went out in two days. Actually, he said the bearings were still intact, but the rubber mount was burnt up.

One possible cause is that your straw chopper rotor may be out of balance. That will cause the rubber holders to fail

we NEVER install the rubber held bearings. we enlarge hole in side and install 2188 bearings in them. been doing that for years_ also go by other posts. a lot heavier bearing.

did you also replace the metal retainer,been there and done that,replaced retainer and made a .060-.080 thick reinforcement plate between side sheetmetal and rubber bearing assembly {4 holes for the studs and larger hole for shaft, make large hole smaller than original}

I HAD THE SAME PROBlEM 2 BEARINGS IN 1 DAY I WAS MISSING A CHOPPER BlADE THROWS IT WAAAY OUT OF BAlANCE MUST REPlACE 2 BlADES AT A TIME TO KEEP BAlANCE
