David, I had the exact same problem on my 1688 two years ago. Fought it for a long time. Finally dealer told me to run new wire to solinoid under right cab panel. I don't remember which wire, but I will take the panel off and check for you if you wantIJ Call my cell at 618-267-2213 I'll be cutting beans all day. I think the wire fed more than just the display. Call me if you think I can help, I know how frustating it can be! Wolffman

Had same problem. At first I just cleaned the positive post and the small lead wire on the battery. A year or so later that wouldn't help. Next I used a large pair of channel-lok pliars and squeezed the battery cable post to make better contact with the copper cables. My last and final repair I had a short battery cable made up that just went from the batteries to the starter. That's been two years no problem since. I left the old cable attached to the starter to feed power the front of the machine. I covered the old post to prevent and contact.

Check the positive battery cable on the RH battery. The clamp doesn't make good connection with the cable and that is where "clean power" is connected.I usually remove both positive clamps and peen them with a hammer at the cable to get by till after harvest.Be careful not to short out the clamp whem peening and don't damage the part that clamps to the post. Only peen the part the cable goes through.

You are right that's the first thing to try, but my clean power wire was bad other than just the connections.

Thanks for the replies. It has been very wet here, but the ground has froze enough to try out your suggestions. I found that it was poor battery connections that had caused the trouble.
