i saw a very clean 2166 sell at auction last year 1200 hrs for only 48,000 no heads. 1688 sounds a little highIJ

That sounds too high for the 1688. We bought a 2388 with 1100 engine hours on it last year for $70,000, and that included a 25' 1020 header. But that was one of those "once in a lifetime" deals. Had an opportunity to buy a 2188 w_1600 engine hours for $60,000, no header. 1688 should be around $50,000 or so, at least in our area (north lA).

Come to think of it, we looked at several 1688's in the low to mid $40's. These were all 4x4 machines.

last year I looked pretty hard for a 1688 because it would have been the perfect fit for our operation. Unfortunately, as you are finding, the 1688's always seem to be priced pretty high. We ended up going with a 2188 and have been happy with it. If I were you I would start looking for a '96-97 2188 and see where they are in price compared to a 1688. You will like the cab a lot better and the extra electronics seem to be reliable. I would shy away from the '95 model. I see no reason to stick with the 60 size machine if you are needing more capacity.

Engine horsepower was not changed between the 1666_1688 series and the 2166_2188 series, so a 2166 would have the same capacity as a 1666 (and definitely less than a 1688!) If you want capacity look for a 1688 or 2188. They both have the same capacity but the 21 has more bells and whistles, hydraulics, etc.

Well I would like to thank all of you for the input. This sight is great and nice to know that owning a red machine gives a person the support of other Case_IH owners. My decision is easier now because if it. Thanks again!

so it had run 1100 hours in the most extreme conditions possible(rice)IJ that's about 3300 hours on any other machine. please give us the whole story, not part of it...
