you can get key on only power at the relay behind the right outside door panel. unload auger can be in any position to unload, including but not limited to rear in the cradle while harvesting - auger running...done done that. heater knob is on a stem to a water valve...Ours turns hard too...might loosen the packing nut. your hand will naturally drop to the two switches when you get used to running the machine...as an added precaution you can leave the rotor switch turned on when you leave the machine overnight...squirrels will have a harder time starting the machine even if the key is left in the ignition.

It sounds from your nickname as if you were a previous Gleaner owner too. I have a 1688 I've used the last 2 years and prior to that a 1980 model l2. I miss many of the features my Gleaner had like veriable speed corn head, cab being centered, and all push button controls. This was on combine 13 years older! But like you I'm very pleased with my 1688 despite it's short comings. CW
