Clicking noise is just a gear missing a tooth. Always been able to finish harvest in that situation. Will your transmission go backwardsIJ Wondering if broken tooth lodged between two gearsIJ Check shifter on right side of transmission and make sure operating properly. Consider removing lid on transmission to peek inside. Gear problems should be obvious. How's your oil...fairly cleanIJ Worked on several transmissions but never had one leave me stranded. Used 1680 parts I believe match 1688 so plenty of "cheaper" parts available. You should be able to repair transmission in the time it takes to swap it and save a lOT of money in the process. Don't need to pull it out to repair it. Write back if need more imput.

I agree with dannyboy. I ran almost the whole harvest last year with a tooth off and then it was fixed while still in the machine. I am not sure of the cost but $500 sticks in my mind. You might try taking the drive shafts off and shaking the tranny by hand to free the tooth. Mine fell out when I removed the oil so I didn't have to look for the clicking sound. Good luck.
