Cab is big difference. 1688 Should honestly be able to be bought for around $35,000 and 2188 around $60,000 - all primarily for the cab I guess.

Depends totally on options. The 21 and later series cab is a nice treat, however, a properly spec'd 1688 will perform just as good as a 2188.

The main diff. is the cab. I just sold a 97 2188 with 1700Eng and 1500Sep hours for $82000. Combine was rice machine with a great deal of repairs recently completed. The 1688 with mud hog, and in good shape will retail in the mid 40's.

Man! I sure hope you're kidding about this "1688 Should honestly be able to be bought for around $35,000 and 2188 around $60,000"..35K for a 1000 hour 1688IJ Surely you jest! Anyone else think that is obscenely on the low sideIJ

Yea, I got a chuckle out of that too. I bet a fully equipped 1688 with 1000 hours would bring the $60K.

Thanks for confirming my sanity "kid". lol I tell you what, at 35K, I'll take 5 of the 1688's that are in good condition with 1000 hours on them. Throw in 2 or 3 of the 21's at 60K while you're at it! lol

The two combines are basically the same except for the cab and the hydraulics. 2188 will have better brakes, concave control(in cab),bigger cab, better spreading(2188 should have chaff spreader, 1688 could have chaff spreader but probably has straw spreader. Chaff spreader is a plus). Determine whether either combine has a field tracker or not. Personally I would prefer a 2188. Just my .02 worth.
