i don't know if deere had a rotory in 36 but, in the 50's deere worked with a california company called harvestair on a rotary machine that used a cyclone simular to those on grinder mixers to seperate the grain from the chaff. they have toyed with rotaries since that time and have used several different styles the latest other than the birotor had the rotor basically in the header and was called a transverse rotor. they canned it because it was unhandy and to costly to change from corn to grain pictures can be seen in the book john deere volume no 2 by don macmillan
